Hello. My name is Alouise. Yes that is my real name, and yes I like it. Thanks for asking.
I live in a small city outside of Edmonton, Canada. Edmonton gets a bad rap, and it can be cold in the winter, but there is actually a lot to do here. I’m a fourth year student in the professional writing program at MacEwan University. Currently I’m interning at a non-profit organization, and working as a freelance writer. You can see my writing portfolio here.
Aside from writing I obviously love to travel. I used to think that travel was impossible, and I would let fear stop me from traveling – fear of money, fear of time, fear of responsibilities. Anyone can travel though, and you don’t have to be rich or famous, you don’t need a crowd, or a job as a travel agent or pilot (although that wouldn’t hurt) to travel. You just need to work on that inner-monologue telling you to go somewhere.
I am an unlikely spokesperson for travel. Most of my travels have been within the US and Canada, except one trip to Mexico and a Contiki tour of Western Europe in 2008. I’m not a backpacker, although I like the idea of traveling around the world with only a backpack full of stuff to worry about. Most of my travels have been in 1 or 2 week breaks I take from work and/or school.
What is Traveler Ahoy About?
Obviously Traveler Ahoy is a travel blog, but I want to show people that the possibilities for travel are endless. There is not a traveling style you have to conform to. You only need to make an effort to go somewhere. It just takes one trip to start a life of travel.
My personal travel style often revolves around road trips (which I love), short city breaks, solo travel, and traveling with friends, but I don’t have any judgments on how people travel. If you are getting out there to discover a little bit more of the world then that’s a good thing.
Where Else Am I?
Sometimes I lurk around on the interwebs on various social media sites. You can find me on
