A little update I ended up by some Kenn sandals from a store at the Riverwalk Mall. Probably the most expensive “souvenir” I’ve bought for my travels, but it’s been well worth it.
Right now I’m in New Orleans, and I’m not in the French Quarter eating a beignet or strolling down Magazine Street. No instead I’m at my hotel sitting on a chair with my feet propped on my suitcase, because once again my feet have swollen.
It’s not as bad as it was in New York City two years ago, because I did get up and walk around the plane. I knew there would be problems for me in Houston yesterday. I didn’t buy any compression socks (which I kept planning to do), and the sandals I was brought along to wear were really bugging me. They were old and worn out, so I stopped off at Macy’s and bought a pair of padded flip flops. Not ideal, but my old sandals were even worse. I walked all around downtown Houston, and the heat and humidity I’m sure didn’t help.

These shoes look nice, but not for walking around in all day.
Now I’m in New Orleans with six days to go here, before another 6 days in Colorado, and I really don’t want the swelling in my feet to get worse. As it is already the bones in my feet have seemed to disappear. I know the sandals I bought probably didn’t help, but they will be useful at the beach. I know I need to invest in a pair of good shoes or sandals. Something that’s comfortable to walk around in, and supportive.
So here’s my question fellow readers and travelers (or travel lovers) what’s a good brand of sandals for lots of walking. Like I said I’m looking for something supportive. The only name I can think of is Keen’s. Are they good? Do you know?

I just sent out a tweet about this situation yesterday, I need a pair of hiking shoes! I have tried on about 5 different pairs so far and nothing feels perfect. I just want to know what kind women really like and trust. But I do have to agree with Ada, I had a pair of Merrill’s that I wore constantly for a year, they were my favorite shoes ever! I highly recommend Merrill’s or Keens! Hope you found some shoes!!
I ended up buying a pair of Keen’s walking sandals, and they saved my feet. I’ve worn them several times since that trip. I’ll still need to buy some closed toe shoes eventually, so I’ll either get another pair of Keen’s or look into some Merrill’s. Thanks for for the tip Becki.
Not sure what’s the usual weather to the place where you travel, but I usually travel with slippers and when doing walkathon, I always wear my pair of Merrell.
Thanks for the comment Ada. New Orleans was pretty hot when I was there but I found a pair of good shoes at a store. I never thought about wearing slippers, but I have heard good things about Merrell shoes.
