Like leprechauns and rainbows, food and travel go together. It’s just meant to be. Some people crave savoury foods, some people crave spicy foods, and some (like myself) crave the sweet stuff. If you’re in Vancouver, BC here are 3 places on Granville Island to indulge your sweet tooth.
You can thank me later.
1. Earlier in the year, as a semi-new year’s resolution, I decided to give up chocolate for the whole year. To make a long story short, ipso facto, etc, etc, I didn’t last the full year. After visiting Chocolatas I don’t think I would have made it one week. The chocolate here is delicious. I tried a piece of the earl grey tea dark chocolate. I hate earl grey tea, and my thought process was, “if I take this flavour I won’t like this chocolate, and I won’t give in to my chocolate cravings.” That logic was flawed. I loved the chocolate. If Chocolatas can turn something I hate into a delicious piece of sublime goodness, it can make anyone into a chocolaholic.

2. Lee’s Donuts of Granville Island. A donut is a very simple thing, sweet dough with a leavening agent fried in oil. But so many places take something good and simple and ruin it. In fact pretty much every donut chain commits this atrocious crime. Oh the humanity. Put simply Lee’s donuts are delicious, warm, fresh, sweet mounds of golden goodness. It’s like they melt in your mouth they’re so good. I’m pretty sure these donuts are the key to world peace.
3. La Baguette et L’echalote. No surprise that a French pastry shop is on a list containing delicious sweets. While La Baguette also does savory it was the pain au chocolat (yes once again I failed at giving up chocolate) that takes the cake. It was the grand fromage, the cat’s pajamas, the bees knees, etc. Light, flaky, but somehow a little chewy and tender with delicious chocolate inside. If I lived anywhere near Vancouver I’d probably be about 20 pounds heavier right now because of this place.
Please note: I received samples from each of these establishments as part of a complimentary tour of Granville Island offered by Edible BC. but all opinions are my own.

Glad you got to experience Granville Island’s sweet tooth! We have to limit our trips, it can be dangerous for the waistline!

Thanks for the comment. I’m sure if I lived in Vancouver I’d probably have to limit my trips to Granville Island too.
